Entry date: 1-10-2023 - Dry Stripes - Letters to My Friends

Dear Friends,

"I'm going to walk out of here a lean, mean, fighting machine" - Dewey "Ox" Oxburger (1981)

"I wanna party with you, cowboy" - John Winger (1981)

Sometimes Stripes is about the best medicine. After a long day, it is nice to sit down and write a bit with the funniest of Bill Murray's films, in my opinion, in the background.

Yesterday was a long day.

It was also a good day and went better than I expected. The students were pretty good, all things considered. The best part, though, was that they were happy to see each other. That makes my job so much easier.

Today will be better.

When I got home from work yesterday I really wanted a beer. It's been a week of Dry January and the first several days, I didn't even really think about wanting a beer. Monday night, though, was rough. It made me realize that I connect work with drinking a few beers after work pretty easily.

The thought crossed my mind that I had a long day and deserved a beer. The same thought I typically had almost every day, it seems over the last few months. I don't think I realized what a pattern I had fallen into until light night.

Today will be better.

On a related note, though, I think it is fitting we are doing these Hillbilly shows now. I didn't drink when we started Hillbilly and it will be fun to revisit that mindset. Practice tonight.

Crooked House

Corners everywhere.

And the color.

Yellow and deep blue

to relax the brain and palate.

It was off kilter.

It was quick.

Sound was there, everywhere,

if you listened.

Sparkling eyes, so true,

and playful.

Houses wink

when they know the truth more than you.

Boom - chugga - lugga.

Picture of a picture. I took one but not the other.
