Dear Friends,
Before I forget, I just want to say that I love you. If you’re reading this, you have a piece of my heart. I don’t say it enough, but it’s true. I think the drive in front of me today has me waxing a bit nostalgic.
*****
Dawn in the mountains.
Dawn.
The first glimpse of light.
The crisp air
And deep breaths.
Steel in the veins.
I will not cry.
I will drive.
Push forward and look.
Drink it in.
Rivers and trees turning gold and red
From purple and black beginnings.
Thirteen mile woods soon.
Narrow roads and tiny bridges loom.
Will there be a moose?
Ah, Vermont.
Subtle.
An acquaintance, really.
I can’t call you friend.
Not yet, at least,
But I like you.
You’re curious, I can tell,
But there is a stand off
In your stare.
We say goodbye
And New York says, “HELLLLLLLOOOOOOO.”
Long stretches
And lots of stretching.
I no longer think of a golf course
When I consider the idea of rolling hills.
Time for gas and a pee.
Erie, my sweet,
Lakeside retreat.
I’ll sleep with you again
Tonight.

(the Bet)
The set lights were burning hot. Meg Little had greeted Friday when she got there with a big smile and a hug.
“You ready?” Little asked.
“I am, I think,” Friday replied.
Friday had been ready for hours. She had gone through the scene about a thousand times in her mind and twice that morning in the tub. The warm glow of the lights was helping, too. Friday noticed Aidan coming onto set out of the corner of her eye and quickly refocused on Meg.
“Good girl. I’m so glad this all worked out,” Meg said with a tone that caught Friday off guard.
“What do you mean?”
“Oh nothing…I shouldn’t have said anything.”
“Meg…”
“Damn it,” Meg said, before going on:
“I, umm, did you hear about Jennifer Dunkirk?”
“No. Who is Jennifer Dunkirk?” Friday asked.
The look on Meg Little’s face said there wasn’t any good news coming. As Meg started to talk, Aidan Mann walked up and put his arms around Friday.
“Mmmmm, Nurse Joannie. You smell amazing,” he said.
Friday turned into his embrace and was met with a kiss that was more friendly than professional. She forgot about what Meg was saying and looked into his eyes. Was she kissing Aidan or “Jimmy” right now, she wondered.
“I’m going to let you guys get ready. Break a leg, you two, or maybe an egg,” Meg said with a laugh. She was relieved that she didn’t have to tell Friday about Jennifer Dunkirk.
Friday and Aidan looked at each other for another second and started kissing again. Both of them were wondering the same thing. Was this rehearsal? Was this real? Even Aidan had to ask himself, “Am I kissing this beautiful girl or is this ‘Jimmy’?”
Many of the crew members were too busy working to notice Friday and Aidan kissing but Vince Trantella noticed and he couldn’t have been happier. This is going to be a great scene, he thought, as he sidled up to Meg Little.
“They just click, don’t they?” Trantella asked Little.
“I’ll say. You better be careful or she’s going to steal this movie,” Little replied.
“I bet she does…I bet she does,” said Trantella. “Hey Bob, let’s get this thing going.”
“Okay, boss,” said Bob Bender. “Ten minutes everyone. TEN MINUTES!”
