Dear Friends,
I had this idea as I looked at my bookshelf and saw a paperback book that I picked up somewhere years ago. The title of the book is Fonzie Drops In. One of the reasons I bought this book is it sort of looks like a previous owner scratched the cover over the word “In” and had written the word “Acid” instead.
This is my first attempt ever at fan fiction and, like everything else here, it’s a first draft.

Fonzie Drops Acid
As spring began in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1967, it was not unlike many other years. There was still a considerable chill in the air and while there was still a little snow on the ground in some areas of town, the parking lot of Arnold’s Drive In was clear. Arthur Fonzarelli, aka “The Fonz” pulled into the parking lot to start the second half of his day and strode confidently into Arnold’s like he always did because he was the Fonz and, also, he owned the joint.
As he took a quick look around to see how business was going that day, he spotted a small group of students from the University nearby where his friends Richie and Ralph and Potsie had gone to school in the early part of the decade. They were huddled together and seemed to be very interested in something in the middle of the table. Fonzie also noticed that two members of the group were female, and his curiosity was instantly piqued even further.
“Welcome to Arnold’s,” said Fonzie as strode up to the table in his black leather jacket, jeans, and boots. He locked eyes with a lovely young blonde coed with a wreath of flowers in her hair and said, “I don’t believe we’ve met. I’m the Fonz and you are?”
“I’m Rain,” she replied, unable to take her eyes away from the Fonz as he slid into the booth next to her.
The other students looked surprised but said nothing until the Fonz broke the silence.
“Are you enjoying your cappuccinos? I see you haven’t touched any of the sugar cubes. I’m guessing nothing is as sweet as you, Rain,” as he turned his attention back to her.
“We were just getting ready to eat them,” said Rain, giggling, which made her friends Sarah, Bobby, and Mark laugh as well.
Without taking his eyes away from Rain, Fonz grabbed a sugar cube and popped it into his mouth.
“Usually, I just drop it into my coffee, but what the heck?” joked Fonz, not realizing what he had just done.
“All right,” said Bobby. He didn’t need any further encouragement, so he grabbed a sugar cube and popped into his mouth as well. Mark, Rain, and Sarah followed suit and soon there was only one left on the small plate in the center of the table.
“We were saving that for our friend, Jenny, but she never showed up,” said Sarah, speaking for the first time since Fonzie had joined them.
A little confused but playing it off because he liked these seemingly happy and carefree kids, Fonz said, “Ayyyyyyy, let’s not let this little guy get lonely. Want to share it, Rain?” as he slid it between his lips and moved in for a kiss.
But Rain backed away.
“I’ve never done that much,” she stammered seeing the surprise in Fonzie’s eyes.
Now really confused, the Fonz almost instinctively swallowed the second cube and said, “What do you mean? It’s just a little harmless sugar.”
There was some tension in the air as Fonzie’s new friends looked at each other and waited for someone, anyone, to say something. Fonz studied their eyes and knew something was up.
“What’s going on here, kitty cats?” asked Fonz with a slight edge in his voice. Even though Jedi mind tricks had not been invented yet, the Fonz had been using them for years.
“N-n-nothing, Fonz,” said Bobby, “We just didn’t know you liked sugar so much.”
Fonzie could tell Bobby was lying so he looked him directly in the eye while reaching out and patting his hand.
“Was there something in that sugar?”
“No, Fonz. Nothing was in the sugar,” said Mark, speaking up for his friend who had lost the ability to speak. “We’re just messing around. It’s really an honor to meet you. My older sister speaks really highly of you. That’s why we came in.”
This took some of the edge off and Fonzie relaxed a bit, his arm still around Rain. “Who is your sister, Mark?”
“Becky Granger, Fonz. I think you guys had a few dates when she was still living in town,” replied Mark.
Now, the Fonz had an almost instant, savant-style recall for names and faces of the ladies he dated and after studying Mark’s face a bit, could see the resemblance. A bright, million-dollar smile crossed the Fonz’s face, and he relaxed a bit more.
“Well, please tell Becky the Fonz says hell-ooo when you talk to her next. She’s welcome to visit anytime.”
Distracted by the memory of Becky Granger, the Fonz had a moment of revery. He had liked Becky and it came back to him that she had gone off to school in California somewhere. Berkeley, maybe, or something like that. “Richie would know,” he thought, remembering they had been friends.
“We were going to go up to inspiration point and look at the stars. Do you want to join us?” asked Rain.
Fonz looked at her and then around the room at his business which was starting to fill up and said, “I’ll have to take a ‘rain’ check,” as he kissed her hand. “The Fonz has work to do, but maybe I can join you a bit later.”
“Well, we better get going before it gets too dark,” said Mark as Bobby and Sarah began to stand up.
The Fonz slid out of the booth and held his hand out to Rain.
“It has been my pleasure to meet you,” and he kissed Rain lightly on the lips. “I’ll see you very soon.”
As the group hurried out the door, Fonzie strode towards his office, which was the men’s room at Arnold’s and pushed the door open. When he stepped inside, he noticed that the walls seemed to be breathing.
“Whoa!” he said, under his breath, and the fun started to begin.
To be continued.
See you tomorrow.
