Entry date: 4-19-2023 - Don't Step on Sabonis - Letters to My Friends

Dear Friends,

I don’t even know what to say about yesterday. On many levels, it was a really good day and one of the best I’ve had at work in a while. The students weren’t on their best behavior, but it was better than it has been in a long time now.

The Suns put together three pretty decent quarters of basketball. I’m still not convinced that Monty Williams is the long term answer for a team with championship aspirations, but we shall see. I wrote some pretty harsh things about this team and, at least for one game, proved me wrong.

To get a win was a good thing and hopefully it was the type of confidence builder the Suns need to get things in gear. Booker was awesome with 38 points and 9 assists and KD was, well, KD. Even Ayton and Paul played well, and the bench came up big a few times, too.

It was also fun to see that Draymond Green was suspended for game three. Go Kings! Fuck the Warriors.

The downer of the day was getting a text from my friend and bandmate, Trent. He let us know that his mom died. My heart goes out to him and his family.

I won’t pretend that I knew her well, but I did spend some time with her over the years here and there. I really liked her, too. She always seemed to really support Trent and his musical interests. I’d like to think that I passed whatever muster or test she had for Trent’s friends and musical co-conspirators. Either way, though, I can’t imagine what he is feeling tonight.

We have a show on Saturday with the Mentors and I have a feeling that if we do end up playing, we will bring the power for Mrs. P. I’ve got love in my heart for the family and if I can help Trent exorcise some grief, I’m happy to do it. No matter what, we’ve got his back.

I’m going to take a day off from the Bet, but I’ve got a few ideas for it.

See you tomorrow.

She was so small. I love my granddaughter.
