Entry date: 4-9-2023 - Happy Easter, Al McCoy - Letters to My Friends

phnart

Dear Friends,

Happy Easter Sunday to you all. If you celebrate, that is. If you don’t, that’s cool, too. I realized this morning that there is really nothing to celebrate today without there being some little ones to hide eggs for and watch them have fun.

I’m watching the Suns game and listening to Al McCoy on the computer as I type this. I can’t help but think that I really want to see the Suns play these Clippers in the playoffs, but I think the Suns are going to win this game. They have a six point lead as I type, no, make it four points.

Back to Al, though. What a master of his craft. He has been a constant in my life and it is hard to fathom not hearing him calling games after this year. I’ve taken him for granted, to be sure, and if there are any future Suns fans in the family, I will hopefully be able to tell them about the great Al McCoy.

I can remember watching Suns games on 13” black and white TVs as a kid when the Suns would do the occasional simulcast. Al would be calling the games on both TV and radio and describing the game so well. He seemed to live and breathe with the team, celebrating their success and feeling the disappointment along with the rest of us when they would inevitably lose. It would only be fitting for the Suns to get their first championship this year.

Swisheroo for two, Al…more like swisheroo for 51. That’s how many years he has been the voice of the Suns. Absolutely the best!

See you tomorrow.

Stolen from the interwebs, here's Al in the 70s. GOAT!
