Dear Friends,
Sometime the devil is real.
To see the effect of the knowledge on my students yesterday was amazing, but it also was affirming, but not in a good way. The affirmation I saw today was that even good kids, kids who I have grown to love over the last six months, will turn rotten when they know there is nothing you can do to them.
It was short and sweet and to the point, of course. They responded to the usual threats…
“I’ll take away privileges.”
“Finish strong.”
Or this one:
“We still have four days of school. That means I have four days to boss you around.”
I like reminding them, occasionally, that one of my joys in life is bossing around small people. If you haven’t done it, you should.
I jest, of course. I’m way more in favor of convincing small people to believe in themselves, solve problems, and be respectful of each other. That’s a much better thing than being bossy. Bossy sucks.
Yesterday I had to be bossy about five times. I suppose that is not bad, all things considered. It could, and has been, way worse at times. We’re all just ready to say goodbye.

Blood flows here today.
Dumb thoughts, too, and sleepy eyes.
Run, Ferris. Please run.

I’ve never written a haiku about Ferris Bueller’s Day Off before. I’m guessing there are a ton of them out there. As I reread the haiku, I wonder if it is about the movie at all. It’s…
Terrible, I think.
It sucks because it isn’t
plausible at all.

Today is another day of crazy children. We’ll start off with a celebration of the student of the month. After that, It’s just get them through the morning and we have a dance in the afternoon.
See you tomorrow.
Two kids on a log.
